Riese & Muller has one of the greatest stories and histories in the electric pedal assist bicycle industry. It all began with two engineers, a good idea and a garage. But not in California like Apple, rather in the south of Hesse in Germany. In Darmstadt, to be more precise. In the parent’s courtyard. Markus and Heiko continue to the maintain the company as private and oversee all operations. Their products are at the pinnacle of engineering, design and attention to detail.

The all new 2020 Superdelite model from Riese & Muller has both revolutionary and evolutionary components that make the whole eBike greater than the sum of its parts!

Let’s go over some of the highlights of this eBike that has to be on the list of Greatest Electric Bicycles of All Time.

Frame
It all starts with the frame. This top of the line model from the company has been evolving for over 21 years. It has deep roots in the original Delite model which continues to offer Active Full Suspension, front and rear. This has been termed Control Technology by Markus and Heiko, which provides better Safety, Performance and Comfort than any other type of Bicycle or eBike Platform. Control Technology is also present on just a few other models they produce including the Delite, Homage, Culture and Load models. The frames that Riese & Muller develop are considered Platforms which customers can then customize several options to their liking. The Delite model continues with a Single Battery now and the newly introduced Superdelite offers the famous dual battery technology from Bosch which Riese & Muller helped co-develop a few years ago.

Powertube Batteries
New for 2020 on both the Delite and Superdelite models incorporate the Bosch eBike Systems Powertube battery technology which allows them to be embedded in the frame, not just concealing them by also allowing for a revised frame style. The Superdelite batteries include two of the 500w batteries for a totol of 1000w. That is at the highest end of any eBike on the market. For long distance, comfortable rides with a focus on safety, there is no match for the Superdelite model.

Two Speeds – Hi and Low
You can choose your Riese & Muller Superdelite, and most other models from the company, with either the Class 1, 20 Mph Bosch Performance Line CX or the Class 3, 28 Mph Bosch Performance Line Speed. Again, a very unique approach from the company and no other eBike company offering this option on the same model.

Three Transmission Choices
Riese & Muller is the only electric bicycle company offering three different choices when it comes to your rear transmission. Yes, like a car, these mid-drive ebikes using the Bosch eBike Systems motor creates a true hybrid approach to power delivery to propel the eBike. The rider’s power is combined with the motor power and all of that energy is delivered to the rear wheel where you can choose from a Traditional Derailleur & Cassette, a Enviolo Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) Internal Hub and a Electronic Shift 14-Gear Rohloff Internal Hub. The Rohloff has one of if not the greatest range of gearing of any bicycle when not using a front derailleur. Simple push-button approach to changing gears with super low gears and high enough gearing for the high speed motor.

Fox Float Shock Absorbers
The Suntour Aion, Air, tapered, 100mm front fork and the Suntour RS-19 100mm are the standard shock absorbers on the front and rear of the Superdelite GT (GX models increases travel to 140mm). But you can upgrade these as one option to the top of the line Fox Float 34 Performance, Air, 100mm and Fox Float DPS Performance 100mm for the smoothest ride possible. When you ride a Control Technology based eBike from Riese & Muller, you realize that you don’t have to avoid the larger bumps in the road, in fact you seek them out sometimes to really enjoy this ride comfort.

Integrated Rear Rack
One of the coolest and well thought out features is the Fully Integrated Rear Rack where the mount points for the rack are incorporated directly into the frame, above the rear suspension. This is a revolution in rear racks in that the Rider and the Load are fully suspended by the air-tuned active shock absorbers. Because bicycles and eBikes are exposed to every type of bump in the road and path, the Rider and Rear Load are absorbing all the vibrations. Active Rear Suspension is the only way to truly get away from this problem. Even Seat Post Suspensions do not absorb the medium and larger bumps, and they don’t absorb bumps at the pedals or on the rear rack.

Bosch Display Options
Riese & Muller is the only company offering three different Display Options from Bosch eBike Systems to each customer. The choices include standard Intuvia Display, the Kiox Display and new for 2020, the Smartphone Hub. The Smartphone Hub is not available on models with Rohloff Hub. Minimalistic design

We have redesigned the cockpit of the E-Bike: depending on the display you opt for, it is perfectly integrated on the handlebar with optimised cabling. A tidy appearance, up to now really only associated with racing bikes. Two 500 Wh rechargeable batteries are also concealed within the sporty design so that you really don’t need to worry about your range.

The Bosch Performance Line CX motor (4th generation)
The most power ever on an E-Bike.
The fourth generation of the Performance Line CX is the most powerful E-Bike motor to have been produced by Bosch. It sets totally new benchmarks with up to 340% pedal assistance, a maximum torque of 75 Nm, extremely sporty start-up characteristics and pedalling rate assistance of up to 120 rpm. Compared to its predecessor model, it cannot fail to win you over with its greater dynamics, even lower pedal resistance and 25 % lower weight. At the same time, it is almost half the size, providing for ultra-aesthetic and unobtrusive integration.

GX-Option
You decide where you go.
If you like riding your E-Bike off-road, then simply equip it with a first-class off-road package. The air suspension fork with 140 mm travel reliably absorbs shocks and effortlessly compensates for any unevenness on the terrain. The solid tire studs on the shoulders of the Schwalbe Rock Razor tires guarantee outstanding grip, especially when cornering. The sporty Ergon saddle and the adjustable X-Fusion Manic seatpost make for simply perfect off-road rides.
