eBike Central at Trail Forum in Moorsville NCWe had a great time participating in the 12th Annual NC Trail Forum event in Mooresville, North Carolina on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

Every year the Trail Forum brings together over 200 industry professionals and community leaders to continue the momentum in advancing the regional trail and river network, the Carolina Thread Trail.

This year, the event is bringing to attendees nine informative sessions and two dynamic keynote speakers. The presenters and exhibitors look forward to helping facilitate the expansion of Thread Trail segments in North Carolina communities!

This is a description of the Session we are participating in:
Emerging Technology = Emerging Trail Users: How EBikes and Electric and Autonomous Vehicles are Effecting Trail Development Emerging technologies such as e-bikes, e-scooters, neighborhood electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles represent a new group of trail users that we must consider for trail design and management. These new modes of trail use introduce challenges such as increasing the speed differential between users on the trail, creating potential trail user group conflicts, and requiring different trail design and amenities. Some trail managers are working to develop trails that incorporate these new modes to provide a trail system for all users, embracing these emerging technologies. This presentation will discuss the unique aspects and challenges to designing for these emerging technologies.

Our focus was on the following related to eBikes and Trail Access & Use:

  • What is an eBike?
  • What are the classes of eBikes? (1, 2 and 3)
  • What are the Types or Categories of eBikes? (i.e. Urban/City, Off Road, Commuter, Cargo/Utility)
  • Demographics of eBike owners.
  • eBike Laws – State and Federal

We have always had the goal of trying to properly represent Electric Bicycles and eBikes in Forums, Discussion Groups and to Key Stakeholders with Policy formation. This is another example of our commitment to this approach.

We will also be taking Three eBikes for Display and Discussion representing each of the Classes.
